Piano tuners · North of the city
This independent tuner travels to Prestwich and asked to be on our list. Phone them yourself; there is no booking through us and no middleman.
Leafy, close to Heaton Park and full of family homes where the piano is still in use. Prestwich sits right on the edge of north Manchester, so it falls inside almost every city tuner's patch.
Manchester-based tuner and technician, also a working musician and teacher, who trained under piano technician William Watson. Standard tunings, pitch raises, regulation and repairs including strings and keys, on acoustic pianos only.
About this list. The tuners shown here are independent businesses. They are not employed or supervised by Piano Logistics Manchester, and we take no fee or commission from them or from you. We offer the list as a recommendation only, so we cannot be held responsible for the quality of a tuner's work, for loss or damage that follows from it, or for anything you agree with them. Please check that a tuner suits your instrument, and ask about their own insurance, before any work begins.
Joining the list costs nothing. Put a link to us on your site, fill in a short form and we will check it over before it goes live.

Chords that sound sour, octaves that seem to shimmer or beat, or one note that sounds different from the ones either side of it. Even if nothing sounds wrong, a piano in an ordinary Prestwich home wants a tuner every six to twelve months. A piano kept close to pitch is cheaper to look after than one left for years and then pulled back up.
Central heating. The soundboard is wood, and it swells in the damp autumn air and shrinks again once the radiators are on, which drags the strings with it. Keep the piano off outside walls and away from radiators and direct sun, and try to keep the room at a steady temperature. A tuning booked once the heating has settled in for the season will hold far better.
Each tuner sets their own price, so ask when you ring. As a rough guide, a standard tuning from an independent tuner around Prestwich is usually somewhere between £60 and £100, with more for a pitch raise or repairs. We take nothing from it either way.
Give it a fortnight to a month in its new room first. The instrument has to settle to the new temperature and humidity, and tuning it the day after the move usually means paying for a second visit soon after. If it was badly out before the move, tell the tuner when you book.
Usually not. A buyer will want it tuned in their own house anyway. What is worth having is a tuner's honest opinion on its condition, because that tells you whether it is worth selling at all. If it turns out the piano has had its day, we collect and recycle unwanted pianos across Prestwich.
No. Every tuner here runs their own independent business. We move pianos rather than tune them, and we put this list together because customers ask us for a tuner almost every week. Anything you arrange is between you and the tuner.
Up the stairs, into the new house or out to be recycled. Tell us where it is and where it is going, and we will send a clear price, usually the same day.
