Piano tuners · Greater Manchester

Find a piano tuner in Manchester

We spend our days moving pianos, and the question that follows us from house to house is "do you know a good tuner?" This is our answer: independent tuners working across Greater Manchester and into Cheshire, listed by area so you can ring the right one.

How the list works

  1. Pick your area

Each area page shows the tuners who travel there, with what they do and how to reach them.

  2. Ring them direct

There is no booking through us and no middleman. Prices and dates are agreed between you and the tuner.

  3. Checked before it goes up

Every tuner on the list asked to be included, and we look each one over before they appear.

Choose your area

Linked places already have a tuner. The others are still on our wish list, so if you tune pianos there, ask to join.

About this list. The tuners shown here are independent businesses. They are not employed or supervised by Piano Logistics Manchester, and we take no fee or commission from them or from you. We offer the list as a recommendation only, so we cannot be held responsible for the quality of a tuner's work, for loss or damage that follows from it, or for anything you agree with them. Please check that a tuner suits your instrument, and ask about their own insurance, before any work begins.

Piano tuning questions we get asked

How can I tell my piano needs tuning?

Chords that sound sour, octaves that seem to shimmer or beat, or one note that sounds different from the ones either side of it. Even if nothing sounds wrong, a piano in an ordinary Greater Manchester home wants a tuner every six to twelve months. A piano kept close to pitch is cheaper to look after than one left for years and then pulled back up.

Why does my piano go out of tune every winter?

Central heating. The soundboard is wood, and it swells in the damp autumn air and shrinks again once the radiators are on, which drags the strings with it. Keep the piano off outside walls and away from radiators and direct sun, and try to keep the room at a steady temperature. A tuning booked once the heating has settled in for the season will hold far better.

What does a piano tuning cost in Greater Manchester?

Each tuner sets their own price, so ask when you ring. As a rough guide, a standard tuning from an independent tuner around Greater Manchester is usually somewhere between £60 and £100, with more for a pitch raise or repairs. We take nothing from it either way.

We have just had the piano moved. When should the tuner come?

Give it a fortnight to a month in its new room first. The instrument has to settle to the new temperature and humidity, and tuning it the day after the move usually means paying for a second visit soon after. If it was badly out before the move, tell the tuner when you book.

Is it worth tuning a piano before I sell it or give it away?

Usually not. A buyer will want it tuned in their own house anyway. What is worth having is a tuner's honest opinion on its condition, because that tells you whether it is worth selling at all. If it turns out the piano has had its day, we collect and recycle unwanted pianos across Greater Manchester.

Are these tuners part of Piano Logistics Manchester?

No. Every tuner here runs their own independent business. We move pianos rather than tune them, and we put this list together because customers ask us for a tuner almost every week. Anything you arrange is between you and the tuner.

Need the piano moved, stored or taken away?

That is the part we do. Moving, storing and recycling pianos all over Greater Manchester, as a family firm that has been at it since 1977.
